Well this thanksgiving will definitely go down in history... after such a relaxing morning of fresh scones and watching the parade, Rick took the girls to feed the ducks at a local pond. Mommy took the opportunity to go to old navy since they were open on thanksgiving afternoon. I ended up getting a door buster prize a Rockband guitar and the software! then I did some mad shopping!!! While the girls napped we got the rest of dinner ready for grandma, grandpa and Uncle Gerry to arrive. We toasted with shots of celtic crossing followed by dinner which was a fabulous success! After everything was cleaned up everyone went upstairs to watch a movie, since i am not the biggest movie gal, I decided to take the hour to myself and get Siennas thank you cards done.... I was about half way through when rick came running downstairs saying I think keira swallowed her hairclip... she gagged and choked and then said "my hairclip" so we did a quick search for the hairclip but after being unsuccessful decided the only way to find out was to get her to the ER for an xray.
Our girl Keira made us so proud with how brave she was through the whole process. Before you even walk into the ER they take your temperature to make sure you dont have swine flu LOL keira didnt even want to do that initially.. little did she know at that point that she would have having this and all her vitals checked very regularly. Anyway they got us right in for xrays, where keira got to wear a heavy pink dress to take pictures of her belly. She got to "pose" for the "camera", those techs were amazing with her and she was happy to be rewarded with my little pony stickers! Sure enough she had swallowed the hairclip and it was very clear on the xray...a big hairclip right in her stomach. Thankful that we had brought her and that the clip indeed made it into her stomach with no complications so far we were happy to be admitted. The Pediatric Gastro guy said there was no way she was going to pass it since it was too big and it would remain in her tummy until it was removed. So on to Peds we went... I have to tell you this is the second stay I have had in Mercy Gilbert Peds and they are amazing there! The Tvs have movies and cartoons, story telling and music. They gave keira a few books, and crayons and colouring books, a strawberry shortcake blanket (project linus) and after she got her IV in she got to pick a new toy from the toy closet. They have a playroom with ride on toys etc.. honestly she probably thought it was christmas. After a late night keira crashed and mommy did her best to get some sleep too. Daddy arrived with coffee early in the morning and we soon found out that keiras surgery was scheduled for 4:30pm. We made it though the long day of sitting in bed rotating forms of entertainment.. daddy even danced for us at one point LOL Keira was put under and the procedure to remove the hairclip was complete in about 20 mins!! We have the hairclip and I am working on a shadow box.... the xray pic was just too cool not to do anything with!! Our girl Keira was such a trooper though the whole thing! Who knows if she will ever put another hairclip in her mouth.... we sure hope not :) but she was not happy the next day when I wouldnt put one in her hair!
all I can say is that we were lucky to have had the family here to look after Sienna, she did great with Grandma and we were thankful that both rick and I could be there for Keira!
Here is a little video of keira... we were playing the dont smile game alot.. she is pretty good at doing a serious face...well for a few seconds anyway
