We finally took our first road trip as a family.. we decided to skip our annual trip to Seattle this year for a few reasons.. one travelling close to 30 wks pregnant with one child was enough and I couldnt have imagined it with two.. Plus my parents are doing mad remodeling to their house so it made sense to sort of stay put. But given that it is summer a time when vacations generally happen, I really wanted to go somewhere and san diego is "just" a 6 hour drive. So off we went at 5am after pulling the girls out of bed. The drive was not too bad at all, we stopped in Yuma for breakfast which is just past halfway! We had plenty of in car entertainment and we made it to San diego at around noon. Since our room wasnt quite ready we went straight out for lunch at pizza nova where right there in the water were the black jelly fish everyone was talking about and then off to the San Diego Zoo. WOW I didnt realize the zoo there was so insane, first of all it is HUGE and extremely hilly needless to say though in about 5 or so hours we made it around the whole thing and I really thought I was going to die. The girls were great and some of the highlights for them were the flamingos, elephants and the monkeys. We did get to see one of the little shows as well which the girls loved. I think more entertaining than any of the animals for rick and I were our own girls and how much energy they had.. they loved that they could be out of the stroller and giving us heart attacks as they ran hand in hand down the steep hills! Did I mention it was pretty darn hot there!! So it was not that much of a break in the weather for us although there was an occasional breeze :) So by the time we got back to the hotel it was almost 7 and time to unpack, eat, bathe the girls and go to bed. The first night of us all in the same room didnt go without some giggling but not much since we were exhausted!
